Here are a few tips picked up along the way that may help your party run that little bit better.....

1. This week my tip is with regard to choosing a venue for your celebration - with the day light hours getting longer as we head in towards summer - well hopefully it doesn't look too hopeful out the window at the moment - this mean that venues with windows will remain lighter for longer into the evening - for disco lights to be seen at the most effective they require a dark room - make sure your venue has curtains/blinds to make the room darker earlier in the evening - this is more important for children's parties which are normally held in the afternoon - a darker room will give more of a 'disco' feel to a children's party. Check that your venue will be suitably dark - roof lights, north lights and glazed roofs cause the problem to be exagerated.

2. This week my tip is with regard to the 'forma'l dances at weddings. Your First Dance, Father and daughter and Mother and Son dances can be very daunting for 'nervous' dancers - so to ease your fears why not chose a shorter song for your first dance something about 3 minutes long rather than 5 minutes long - that will halve the time the spotlight is on you on your own in the middle of the dance floor, another suggestion is maybe have the Father and Daughter and Mother and Son dance together - there is safety in numbers!! And along similar lines, if you are really not sure about having that First Dance together, ask your DJ to invite all your other guests to join you on the dance floor half way through your song, your guests will have had chance to take a few snaps of you together alone and they can help support you in your time of need. I try to 'prime' the guests before hand if the Bride or Groom is nervous (without telling them) so guests can give their support with a spontaneous swarm to the dance floor.
